A Collection of Short Poems

A naïve budling

Closed, shying away from you

Its beauty closed

Velvet petals on the bed

This, the crimson night

Consummating their long love

Snow White’s fine red lips

A small prick is all it takes

Snow White’s fine red blood

A rose is a rose

You, forever a ruby

A ruse is a ruse

It is easy to forget

But deception hides

In the most lovely places

Withered and dying

Soon to be forgotten

A wrinkle in time

A Meeting

They all sit round the table

In their suits and cardigans

Discussing projects and media buys on cable

The smell of burnt coffee in foam cups

Covers the goofball rotation of waiting for sidebars to end

While smartphones buzz and someone hiccups

It’s a bring your own chair

Kind of room

And elevator music fills the air

Finally, the scratch of pens on paper ends

And we are asked, “Questions? Concerns?”

And everyone’s motions suspend

Meeting adjourned

Forever

he promised her forever
in a diner
she laughed
and he asked again

in a diner
they sat chatting
waiting for the sun to rise

she laughed
when he asked
but she knew she would say yes

and he asked again
letting the sun rise around them
knowing her answer
